New Poem: Garden Centre
I was in this garden centre and an announcement
came over the tannoy that we weren’t allowed to
pick any of the fruit off the fruit trees. There was a
woman there who was standing next to a tree and
one of the guys who served in garden centre asked
her if she wanted an apple off the tree he was
looking after. She said no. She asked me if I wanted
one. I said no. Then the voice came over the tannoy
and said, ‘Oi, you two, you’ve ruined everything.
You, the woman, you’re supposed to have taken an
apple off the man there. And then you were supposed
to have offered it to the man there.’ The woman
shrugged and walked off. I picked up a pot of
lavender and went to pay for it.
